Could you make someone smile? Jaden does!

He’s just a little boy and tragedy has already struck his life, not once but twice, and in the most terrible way for a child. But, because he doesn’t want other people to be as sad as he has been, he’s made it his mission to make them smile. He was tired of seeing so many people sad and he came up with a plan to change things.

But unlike most of us, he didn’t just think about it, like some vague intention or something to chalked up on his little To-Do list, to be taken care of one day. No, not Jaden …  he got up and he did something about it. And he keeps doing it. And it works … he does make people smile!

He does it the way he knows how …

He does it the way a six-year-old boy knows how, by giving them little toys that, well … put a smile on their faces. I mean, if a child offered you a little toy just to see you smile, wouldn’t you be impressed? Wouldn’t you smile? Wouldn’t you feel like the world just got a tiny bit brighter? It’s a small act of kindness, but it spreads happiness and all kinds of good feelings like ripples in a pond.

And it’s enough to remind us that we don’t have to change the world, we just have to change that little tiny bit of it right where we are. And the more of us that do that, the bigger the change overall.

We don’t need to change the world … just a little bit of it

See, we’d all like to make someone smile, that’s a given. But it’s sometimes not as simple or straightforward as we’d like (‘cos, y’know, as adults we’re really, really good at finding reasons not to do stuff). So we end up doing … well, the truth is we mostly end up doing nothing much about it at all. We just hold onto that intention to spread a little happiness, as though that in itself was going to change things. The intention’s good, sure, but doing something about it takes it to a whole new level.

It’s a pity more of us can’t somehow find a way to make it happen, like little Jaden. Any way we know how.
