Exploring Potential in Personal Development

Listen carefully!

“You’re looking well” … “Have you lost weight?” … “It’s great to see you, you look marvellous!” …

We’re quick to compliment others in all kinds of ways, and, y’know, that’s a good thing. It’s nice to be nice, as they say. But it’s a shame that we reserve the compliments for others and not ourselves.

When was the last time you looked in the mirror and told yourself that you look great? When did you last mention that you’re an all round great person, or that you’re bringing fun and joy into lots of people’s lives? Did you ever, even once, tell yourself “Relax, everything’s going to be fine … don’t worry … calm down”? Like I said, we tend to be complimentary, even solicitous, to friends, and we like to think we’re there for them when they need us. But are we there for ourselves?

It’s as well to keep in mind that the subconscious mind is always listening. It’s like a government installation, always primed and on the lookout for messages, for chatter, for traffic. It misses nothing, literally nothing. Not a single thing escapes its gaze or slips under its radar.

So the next time you find yourself muttering something uncomplimentary to yourself, just shush that careless voice and replace it with a more gentle, caring one, one that is actually on your side. And say something nice. If you can do it for others you can do it for you too. And the benefits could be more far reaching than you might imagine.

Go  on … be nice to yourself. Your subconscious is listening!
