Lessons for Life … from an Admiral

May 5, 2015 Ken 0 Comments

There are so many ‘life lessons’, I could fill a dozen blog posts with them and still have a stack left over for another day. But I don’t want to risk boring you by listing all these things. Sure, they’re valuable lessons, and some of them can actually be life changing. But there’s always the risk that it sounds like preaching if you pass on these things. Like I’m saying, “Hey, you should live this way, the way I’m telling you! Pay attention at the back there!”. And that’s the last thing I’d want to do, to come across as telling you things like an instructor, or a mentor.

I’m no different from you. I’m just taking this opportunity to pass on some good stuff, that’s all! We’re all just the same, basically. We’re struggling to make the best of things, and sometimes we find something of real value that we can pass on to other people, but like I say, there’s always the risk of alienating people by coming across as a know-all.

Hey, I’m gonna risk it!

Well, it so happens that I’ve come across a really valuable resource recently, and it is indeed a list of life lessons. And I’m going to risk annoying you by passing it on to you. But I don’t have to re-list the things on this valuable life lessons list. All I have to do is ask you to watch a fairly short video. I promise, once you start watching you’ll want to watch it till the end. It’s fascinating … it’s engaging … it’s eminently watchable … it can actually change lives … and it demands to be watched. And it’ll have you hooked within five minutes!

It’s the Commencement Address at the University of Texas, 2014, and it was given by Admiral William H. McRaven.

If you don’t find something of value in this, or uplifting, or something to really make you think, I’d be astonished.

Please, watch the video. And if you care to comment, please do.
