Exploring Potential in Personal Development

You just don’t know how beautiful you really are …

It’s a beautiful world … because you’re in it!

Shea Glover did a social experiment, where she videoed people for her art class and told them she was photographing things she found beautiful. Watch the reactions of these people. Some of them … most of them … are flattered … some are embarrassed … in fact, some of them are uncomfortable hearing someone saying such a thing. Nearly all are taken aback that someone thinks they’re actually beautiful. And some just don’t believe it, no matter what.

We’re all beautiful!

The fact is, we’re all beautiful, but mostly we don’t see it. And we don’t think of ourselves as beautiful because we’ve been taught not to get big headed and arrogant, not to get too full of ourselves. We extend that to other people too, which is pretty sad really … we don’t tell them they’re beautiful … because … well, because it can be seen as insincere … or over-the-top … and sometimes we’re scared because it might get misinterpreted, and we’ll be seen as weird … or cheesy, or … or …

You know what? Maybe we should just be a bit freer with the compliments. If you tell someone they look nice, or they’re beautiful, or they make you feel good in some way … then it can only add to their day. It makes them feel good! It lifts them!

You can see a light come on in their eyes! Their beautiful eyes! And you feel good because you made it happen. Win-win!

Sure, there are some people who are exceptionally beautiful, unusually photogenic. It’s like they were born to adorn magazine covers, to make a living preening themselves before the eager eye of camera. But you don’t need to compare yourself to them. Their kind of beauty is unusual, sure, but beauty is beauty, and it can come from a smile, or a kind heart, or a true personality. You might look in the mirror and see only ‘average’ … but that doesn’t tell the whole story, not by a long shot. Other people might see you for the person you really are, and to them you are beautiful. Truly beautiful!

Make someone’s day!

Regardless of the social norms, or the artificial standards created by the advertising industry, we’re all beautiful … at least, to someone. It’s just a pity that for most people, they practically never hear those words … the words that can brighten their day and change their perception of themselves.

Make someone’s day – tell them how beautiful they are!
See how good it makes them feel!

Meantime, enjoy the video. It’s beautiful!
