Exploring Potential in Personal Development

Most people don’t …

Most people just don’t bother!

Most people don’t even bother to exercise. Sad, but true. They kinda like the idea, and they do want to be healthier, and they want to look good, but the work involved … a bit off-putting for most people, let’s face it. Not you though, right?

most peopleAnd most people, even if they do bother to exercise, don’t stick to it. They train for a while, then they let it slip. They might even join a gym (gym owners just love these people!) … but after a few weeks the shine wears off and they find they’re going less and less often. They still pay their membership though, because it makes them feel good that they have, at least, joined a gym. Mmm …

And most people, even if they intend to go to the gym, will find any excuse not to actually do it. I mean, getting out through that front door is probably the toughest part of a session for many people … it takes real guts to get yourself in gear and actually moving. right? The power of inertia pulls them back and makes them do something else entirely.

But later on that day they can be heard saying things like “I was going to go to the gym today, but something came up …” or “If I hadn’t had to finish that report I’m working on, I would’ve gone to the gym this morning”. Yeah, right! That’s most people … not you though, right?

Most people just don’t have what it takes

Even if they do (somehow) find themselves in the gym, most people don’t exercise properly anyway. They faff around, flitting from one machine to the next, or just plodding away on a cross trainer, barely getting involved in any of the exercises, and they never really push themselves hard enough to make a difference. Which is why most of them look much the same after six months … or even six years.

It takes something special to happen to make the body change … let alone change dramatically. It doesn’t want to change. It wants to keep things just as they are. It’s safer that way. Change is traumatic. It is energy-expensive. It might even be dangerous, God forbid! No self-respecting body wants to risk such things! So most people play safe and don’t risk putting their body through such needless trauma. But they regale themselves with the knowledge that they’ve at least joined a gym. Hmm … yeah!

Most people wouldn’t even recognise strict formĀ

most people

Strict form demands concentration and mental focus

And as for strict form … most people won’t stick to strict form when they’re training (or at least not for long) … that is, if they even understand the importance of it. It feels so good to just keep upping the weight, and the thought of sticking to a lower weight strikes them as almost embarrassing. Even though doing exactly that while sticking to rigid form will actually force the muscle in question to work harder.

See, most people don’t worry about such things; it’s enough to go through the motions! And it’s so good to be able to say you benched such a weight, right? Or you hit a personal best at the gym today. Even though that counts for absolutely nothing when it comes to building muscle.

And pain … don’t even go there! You know as well as I do that most people never really go deep into the pain zone. To be honest, most don’t even approach it! I mean, come on … it hurts, man! I mean, really hurts! Even though the pain is transient, and the results are long-lasting … they focus on the pain so much that they forget what they came to the gym for. Pain’s like that – it can make you lose focus, and the next thing, you just … well, you’re just plodding along again, not really advancing at all, but still proud to say you go to the gym regularly, yeah, “three times a week, like clockwork”. Yeah, like clockwork alright … steadily and repeatedly, and just about as effectively as the movement of the second-hand on a kitchen clock, when it comes to building muscle.

Most people are too occupied with Facebook!

And most people are so entranced by their mobile phone that they couldn’t get mentally involved in an exercise if they tried. They’re too busy checking Facebook and reading the latest mindless bits of news about their friends … or at least their Facebook ‘friends’. Or sometimes they’re so involved in their music they might just as well be at a live gig.

Yeah, the truth is most people don’t do what’s necessary to make a difference. They barely, if ever, go to the gym, or even use the weights they have at home (you know, those dust-gatherers they have lined up against a wall in the shed, or their bedroom). And when they do exercise, they practically never get so involved in it that they make even a brief foray into that frightening pain zone that most of them avoid at all costs. So it’s not that hard to see why they don’t see much change in their physique over time.

But, hey, that’s not you, right? You’re committed to your training. You want to see change so badly that you can almost taste it, right? You can visualise how you’ll look, and in your mind, you can actually see the new, improved version of yourself appearing around you like a majestic phantom, more streamlined, more muscular, back broader, chest deeper, biceps fuller, waistline tighter, all-in-all just more … you!

You can see it, and you’re working towards it steadily, no matter how difficult it gets. You don’t shirk the pain, you welcome it like an old friend, right? You know it’s the price you must pay for becoming extraordinary. And you know most people will never understand that, and will never see extraordinary results, like those that you’re working towards.

But you’re not ‘most people’ … are you?

No, most people are quite happy to plod along, achieving virtually nothing, but kidding themselves that they’re training regularly and making a difference. You know the truth though, right? You know that there is a price to pay to become what you visualise, and it’s a price you are prepared to pay.

Am I right?

… Well … am I??
