Joy to the World! A flash mob spreads the joy!

A heartwarming visit to the museum

A visit to the National Air and Space Museum’s “Milestones of Flight” gallery turned out to be extra special for visitors on this particular day, back in December 2013. While they were strolling leisurely round the Museum, members of a military flash mob were preparing to spring a surprise on them. And fittingly they did it with military precision!

It started with a single musician setting up in the midst of the visitors and playing his cello all alone. Which no doubt seemed a bit odd at first, but was a welcome sight anyway. Gradually more musicians appeared, and soon the band of musicians swelled to 120, and visitors soon realised they were in the middle of a flash mob!

Watch the children’s faces as they are transported by the sheer magnificence of the music. And the whole experience – something they’ve very likely never seen before. This is live music, and from such an assemblage of talented musicians, and what a way to introduce them to such an immersive experience.

Flash mob takes your breath away!

The whole performance lasted no more than four or five minutes but I’m sure the astonished onlookers enjoyed every captivating second. The U.S. Air Force Band, led by its commander and conductor, Col. Larry H. Lang, put on a tremendous and heartwarming display, accompanied by vocalists who must have sounded quite angelic.

And all this amidst a fascinating display of space capsules, historical aeroplanes and other flight paraphernalia. Quite a museum visit to remember! I don’t think anybody who had the pleasure to be there that day will ever quite forget it.
